Good evening folks.. The first week of March is going to be an epic one for the local 3D Fighting Game fans.
For both Soul Calibur IV and Tekken 6, Singapore’s best are heading to France and Japan respectively to compete in their respective games.
For Soul Calibur IV, Raymus Chang (Shen Yuan), Jovian Chan (Shen Chan), Tan Yu Sheng (Farpenoodle), Samuel Ong (Aheda) and Vinci Ma (DTarchon) will be flying off to Cannes, France for the 3rd edition of the World Game Cup! (www.worldgamecup.com)
The World Game Cup (WGC) is a 5 day long event from the 3rd to the 7th of March running tournaments for this generation’s most popular fighters: Street Fighter 4, Soul Calibur 4, Tekken 6 & BlazBlue as well as all time favourites like Guilty Gear XX, 3rd Strike as well as a game that resounds with EVERY Singaporean arcade gamer. The King of Fighters 2002 UM.
The event boasts a myriad of special events as well, including a Street Fighter’s MASTER series where the winner walks away with a plane ticket to EVO 2010! There’s also a 2v2 SF4 tournament where the team of Daigo + Eita and Fuudo + Desora from Japan will be participating!
But the highlight for our Singapore representatives there will be the Soul Calibur IV World cup, a 5v5 format tournament where only NATIONAL teams are allowed to participate.. Considering Europe is THE place for Soul Calibur competition and the two biggest countries in Competitive SCIV will be present (France and USA).. This is going to be one HOT main event.
The Tekken 6 representative will be taking part in the finals of the Tekken 6 Global Championship Finals, which is actually a lead up from a tournament held locally at Orchard Central last year. Singapore Champion Shin was later sent to the Asian Championships, where he placed 3rd coming in after JDCR from Korea and Kiba from Malaysia.
Apparently the SEA region has two spots available for the Global tournament, so JDCR, as the first placer in that tournament gets to go. Kiba from Malaysia, as second place winner was to go Tokyo but was unable to make it. Hence, Shin is offered the spot and will be attending the Global Tekken Tournament.
While there has been no official word on the full roster in the Final 16. It’s gonna feature top players like JDCR from Korea, Mr. Naps and ChetChetty from the North America region…and more!
In the meantime on our own shores.. It’s equally electrifying as we gear up for the STREET FIGHTER IV CHALLENGE held at the Samsung Flagship Store in Vivocity brought to you by Rapture Gaming and Round1.sg. on 20th of March 2010. Don’t also forget that our 5v5 Finals aren’t over yet! As we went into overtime last Friday the Final brawl between Team “Prince Elton and the Uncles” as well as Team “Bishan Scrubs” have yet to decide who takes home the top prize!
